Funding for non-government school students

Welcome to Our Website

The Victorian Parents Council was formed in 1958 to meet the growing demand for funding in non-government schools and was instrumental in securing government funding for independent and Catholic schools. Over the years, the Victorian Parents Council has developed into a information and advocacy hub for non-government school parents and a resource centre for parent associations and parents.

The VPC is founded on the following key principles:

  • Parents are the primary educators of their children and have the right to choose the kind of education their child receives
  • When families and schools work in partnership, students' educational and social outcomes improve
  • All  children are entitled to an equitable share of government funding for their education

The Victorian Parents Council provides a vital link between parents, government, education authorities, schools and the media.

The Council aims to encourage, inform and respond to the needs of Parents and Parent Associations by:

Providing parents with a voice at State and Federal Government.
Engaging parents in educational issues to maximise choice and quality in education
Supporting parents through our website and phone service with information, fact sheets and advocacy

We utilise the services of a large number of parent and student volunteer and are always happy to hear from people who may be interested in a challenge.
